The original Mai Tai is known as a refreshing combination of citrus juices that packs a bright punch of floating rum. Its origin is somewhat debatable, as most will say it was created in 1944 by Victor Bergeron, also known as Trader Vic. But some might argue that Donn Beach of Don the Beachcomber claimed Vic’s recipe was inspired by Donn’s Q.B. Cooler which was originally created in 1933. Both men are synonymous with establishing the ever popular tiki culture and tiki bars in and around the pacific.

The cocktail that is often garnished with a pineapple wedge, cherry and colorful umbrella has evolved and changed over time.
