Relax and Unwind At The Kahala

"Born and raised in Hawaii, I have fond memories of visiting The Kahala Resort. I have been there for brunch a couple of times and lunch along with dinner maybe a handful of special occasions. I never had the chance to stay there before and didn't really know what to expect, until recently. Honestly, this property is situated on a beautiful crescent-shaped beach with its sea life, delicate trade winds and off the beaten path oasis vibes. Yes, you are in "town" but you're not in Waikiki or near the hustle and bustle of Ala Moana. There is a simple elegance when you arrive on property and something very surreal about the design, layout and views. It's very calming and oh so relaxing to be there.

Upon check-in you are greeted with a cool and moist face towel, polite and  friendly staff. The rooms are from another era, it's very reminiscent of old Hawaii meets a European suite with the finest linens, comfy carpet and the luxuries of being home. Once I stepped into our room it had that feeling of being home or stepping a better version of your bedroom with soft whites, cream tones and wooden highlights.

In year's past I used to think the resort was popular with predominantly older Japanese guests, but over time it's evolved to include many different types of people. Much to my surprise many of the guests appear to be young couples, young families and visitors from the continental U.S. Having young families on property gives the location more life and keiki who are playing in the kiddie pool along with honeymooners snorkeling in the ocean. I didn't feel out of place or like I stuck out. Sometimes I find that I don't fit in because we are a younger couple, but we don't have kids... and sometimes there are too many kids and the place you're staying can feel like a zoo. This was the perfect balance of relaxation with young energy.

The pool is a good size and is also adjacent to a nice and hot jacuzzi. The ocean is literally steps away and they also feature a really cool floating platform that you can sit, lay or jump (feet first) into the water. They have an array of activities you can do on property as well including yoga, SUP, swimming, meditation and listening to live music in The Veranda after sunset. We had a chance to check out the spa and enjoyed a couples massage, which was one of the best experiences of my life. Such a treat to enjoy together. I didn't bring my phone or camera and just relished in the moment, but if you have the chance I would highly recommend this for a special occasion.

:During this time of year, from our room, we were just shy of seeing the sunrise or sunset from our window. But you could still see the pretty colors and reflection on the ocean. You have everything you need in the room: house slippers, robes, toiletries, hairdryer, bath salts, toothbrush and tooth paste. You really don't need to bring anything with you because it's all there waiting. And in the morning your newspaper is hanging on your door, so you can wake and read the news and relax.

I knew a couple that would visit Hawaii every winter and they used to stay at the Kahala for a couple of months each year. Now I know why. The place truly is special with its hidden luxuries, touches of home and kind smiles from all the staff. You wouldn't ever need to leave the property because of the various eateries on-site and other amenities. If you are seeking a retreat from it all and looking for someplace that is calm, relaxed, full of positive energy and the beauty of Hawaii this would be an ideal location to runaway to.
