Born and raised in the plantation town of Kilauea, Kauai, my fondest memories are going to the beach, riding my bike through town and jumping off everything (trees, rocks, cliff jumping).
I am a proud graduate of the public school system, first at Kilauea Elementary and then Kapaa High & Intermediate on Kauai's east shore.
After graduating from high school I moved to Oahu to attend Hawaii Pacific University. Early on, I set my sights on becoming an attorney and originally majored in Political Science. I later opted to pursue a degree in Communication with a concentration in Speech.
I was honored to capture the crown of Miss Hawaii 2004 and was selected as Hawaii's representative to the Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City, Sept 2004. It was my privilege to represent the Aloha State and be recognized with the President's Service Award and the Charles & Theresa Brown Scholarship. Funds acquired through the program resulted in zero students loans and put me through under graduate school.
After earning my BA degree from Hawaii Pacific University I was hired as a general assignment reporter at KHON2 News, 2 years later I was honored to be named the Wake Up 2day morning show co-anchor. A few years later I went back to school and received my Master's degree from HPU in communication.
My husband, Daniel Heu, and I were married in 2009 and live in Honolulu. During my spare time you will see that I love to travel, enjoy the great outdoors and dine-out.
My philosophy about life is to work hard and enjoy all life has to offer. Think positive and know that the positivity you bring forth is contagious. My friends are my family and they mean the world to me...I hope that we all can live each day with passion, grace, understanding and love for each other.
Working in the news industry greatly enhanced my life. I love being a voice for the community and sharing stories with people. It is my honor to be able to share and disseminate information with others, to keep them up-to-date on their surroundings and happenings in their lives, home and state.

Additionally, due to strong family history and the results of genetic testing, in the spring of 2019 Olena elected to undergo a prophylactic/preventative double mastectomy without reconstruction. This decision was made a few months after her mother lost her three year fight with metastatic breast cancer (her aunt and grandmother also battled the disease on her maternal side). As a result of the strong family history, genetic testing also revealed a RAD50 genetic mutation increasing her already high risk or predisposition to breast and ovarian cancer; Olena chose to lower her risk by over 90% by having this preventative surgical procedure. Since then, Olena has become an advocate and public speaker related to breast cancer prevention.
