Star Noodle shines brightly

Hi guys, sorry it's been about a month since I last posted something here. I have been busy with my other freelance writing projects for FrolicHawaii.com and MauiWatch.com. But I am back and I am really excited to share some amazing food dishes I had recently on a trip to the Valley Isle. This trip was both a mixture of work and play and I am so glad we stopped over at Star Noodle one very busy Saturday night. Let me first say that I have been before for lunch and thought the food was amazing back then. The location is in the middle of an industrial area mauka of Lahaina. The wait for a table can exceed an hour, so if you want to go plan to be there before they open, or go and be willing to wait at least 45 minutes for a table. Who knows, you might get lucky tho...
Let's dive into the food:

Banchan - a selection of Chef's side dishes. This beautiful and colorful side showcased pickled items including kim chee, onion and daikon. These weren't the best sides I have ever had, but it was fun, pretty and a good amuse to get the meal going.

You should sit down for this one. These are the best chicken wings you will ever have! The Kim chee wings are both wings and drums dripping in a balsamic, kim chee vinaigrette. These yummy crispy wings are twice fried and so crunchy and have that amazing sweet and sour sticky sauce all over. You will wanna eat your fingertips they are so good.

Singapore Noodles are vermicelli tossed in curry powder served with tender chicken and perfectly cooked shrimp. The noodles were a bit salty but had great flavor and when you squeeze the calamansi on them with a hit of a little chili sauce it was great.

Vietnamese crepe - I feel like the menu does a bit of a disservice for some of the dishes cause they aren't explained well in print. This dish was described as a crepe with shrimp, pork, bean sprouts and nuoc cham. What it really was like were lettuce wraps with a crunchy crepe taco filled with shrimp and pork sautéed in coconut milk and served with a sweet chili dipping sauce. It did have all the flavors of a vietnamese lettuce wrap with this unusual deep fried crisp crepe. Very delicious! crunch crunch.

I remember getting this the last time and it makes my mouth water, just thinking about it. "Filipino bacon & eggs" consists of crispy pork belly, poached egg, tomato and onion on a hot skillet. Everything about this dish is decadent, flavorful and so yummy. Get it!

Garlic Noodles, fresh and fried garlic, dashi and green onion. This is a bit of a bleh dish for me. Its pretty plain and dry but is garlicky. My friends liked it cause they thought it complimented the other dishes being that they were very flavorful. I didn't like it because I felt it was a throwaway dish that didn't do anything for me except give me garlic breath. I would try the pad thai or look moore funn noodles on the next visit.
The great thing about this place is you can share everything and leave stuffed and it won't break the bank. The prices are really affordable and the food is amazing. If it were here on Oahu I would visit once a week, I am sure! Happy eating!
